Lake Almanor Annual Grebe Festival

August 8, 2025 August 10, 2025

Enjoy a kayak trip to see nesting grebes or hike a wooded path with an expert to see the area’s bird life. These are just some of the kinds of outings being offered for participants to learn about nature and wildllife and to enjoy the outdoors. The festival will also include pontoon boat tours, scoping from shore, the Grebe Symposium, live music, and vendor tables.

The central meeting place for the Grebe Festival is the Olsen Barn, a Plumas County Historic Landmark located in a scenic 107-acre preserve in the Feather River Land Trust.

Although festival participation is free, due to limited capacity, registration is required. $20 suggested donation.

The Plumas Audubon began hosting the Grebe Festival in 2016 to create more public awareness of western and Clark’s grebes, their conservation and how water management affects the grebes’ breeding success at Lake Almanor, and to celebrate these extraordinary birds. The festival is also sponsored by Outdoor Recreation Leadership, Feather River Land Trust, and the Kure-Stuyvesant Trustee Council.
