Southwest Wings Spring Fling

May 7, 2025 May 10, 2025

Due to the abundance and variety of wildlife species, Southwest Wings offers two birding events each year: Southwest Wings Spring Fling in May with guided field trips only and the Southwest Wings Birding and Nature Festival in early August with guided field trips, free programs, wildlife exhibits, vendors, and a keynote buffet.

Southwest Wings is an educational celebration of the diversity of birds, mammals, reptiles, and insects in their environment; the sky islands in southern Arizona. The unique confluence of three climate zones ensures that the species count is high, and many are only found in this area of the United States. We average about 200 species each festival. Our high elevation location guarantees moderate temperatures during our field trips. We offer small group trips limited to a maximum of ten people plus a guide.

The Spring Fling offers guided field trips to the many nearby birding hotspots in Southeast Arizona. Our roster of guides include many professional bird guides from the area who know the birds and where to find them.

Registration is conducted only online starting on January 1 and ending April 15. The online registration system allows you to view information about the field trips, prices, and trip leaders. It also provides you with your festival itinerary and registration code. You can come back into the registration system to make changes.

Be sure to make any lodging reservations in Sierra Vista well in advance as the first week in May is a peak birding time in southeast Arizona.
