Chiapas Birding & Photo Festival

Chiapas’ territory has 70% of all the bird species recorded in Mexico. In fact, it is a region known for its stunning natural landscapes and rich biodiversity, with seven of the twelve ecosystems that characterize the country. The 2025 theme and featured bird species to be announced.

The festival includes conferences by ornithology experts (in Spanish) and 7 tours:

Short tours (5)
• La Sepultura Biospehere Reserve
• Altos de Chiapas (San Cristóbal de las Casas)
• Lookout points of the Sumidero Canyon
• El Ocote Biosphere Reserve
• Tapalapa Ecological Reserve

Long tours (2)
• Costa Soconusco
• Lacandon jungle

The Chiapas Birding & Photo Festival aims to promote sustainable tourism in Chiapas, the care and conservation of birds and their ecosystems, support for local communities, and to encourage the local society’s love for birds. The festival also seeks to continue developing conservation strategies and specialized bird-watching routes in conjunction with specialists and members of the communities established along these routes.
